The overall aim of On Photography Cambodia is to  establish a self-sustaining photographic education program in Cambodia for Cambodians by Cambodians, based on principle of research as well as cultural and ethical awarness. It is envisioned that such a program will enable young talented Cambodians to actively participate in and derive a living from photography in Cambodia as well as internationally.

From the beginning, sustainability and ownership have been founding principles of this initiative. The photographic education program is conceptualized as a social enterprise that is inspired by a social agenda while undertaken using business principles in order to achieve organizational and financial sustainability.

These two principles support one of the main reasons for establishing a Cambodian photographic education program. Today, images of Cambodia are dominated by stereotypes propagated by the Western media supported by the foreign photographic industry. By fostering a Cambodian photographic scene, through the training of photographers and photography teachers, the aim is to counter existing stereotypes and establish a uniquely Cambodian photographic voice. It is envisioned that this will contribute to a wider dialogue on the meaning of photography in a globalized world.

The initial activity of On Photography Cambodia is the photographic art project entitled On Photography Cambodia: Through a story of “the Building” , which is currently being undertaken as is fundrising for both this project and the wider photography education program.
